Sweet Potato Gratin

The big dinner isn’t the same without a big side dish. These cheesy & savoury sweet potatoes are the epitome of comfort food!

Ingredients You'll Need

  • 2 lbs. Sweet Potatoes, cleaned & peeled
  • 1/2 cup Gruyere Cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup Sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp. minced garlic
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme, removed from stems & chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • Salt & pepper to taste


  1. Preheat oven to 375 F
  2. In a sauce pan, heat the cream, garlic, thyme and nutmeg over medium-heat until heated through
  3. Season with salt and pepper (do not let the mixture come to a boil)
  4. Using a mandolin, carefully slice the sweet potatoes horizontally into thin rounds about 1/8 inch thick
  5. In a casserole dish, place the sweet potatoes in a single layer in an overlapping pattern
  6. Sprinkle with 1/3 of the gruyere and 1/3 of the cheddar cheese
  7. Repeat with two more layers
  8. Slowly pour the cream mixture over the potatoes, letting it sink in amongst the layers
  9. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the potatoes are fork tender and cheese is bubbly
  10. Let gratin sit for 10 minutes before serving
