Ingredients You'll Need

  • 6 lbs boneless leg of lamb, cut into 2 inch pieces
  • 4 cups beef stock
  • 4 cups diced carrots
  • 2 large onions, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 potatoes
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tbsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 cup white wine


  1. Put lamb, salt, pepper, and flour in large mixing bowl. Toss to coat meat evenly. Brown meat in frying pan.
  2. Place meat into stock pot (leave 1/4 cup of fat in frying pan). Add the garlic and yellow onion and sautée till onion begins to become golden. Deglaze frying pan with 1/2 cup water and add the garlic-onion mixture to the stock pot with beef stock, and sugar. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
  3. Add carrots, onions, potatoes, thyme, bay leaves, and wine to pot. Reduce heat, and simmer covered for 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender.

You don’t include bacon in the ingredients – I wonder if you fry it first, then brown the lamb in the fat? ….I think there’s a step missing? Surprised there’s no potatoes in the recipe….? You do say to add them near the end – I guess they also were missed on the ingredient list.

Thanks for leaving us your comment! The recipe does call for 3 potatoes as listed in the ingredients list. We removed the step that called for adding bacon as you are correct, it is not included in the recipe and was a typo. That said, bacon would surely make this even more delicious!
